Norman Arthur Rooks, age 95, of Rocky Point died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 8, 1913 in Pender County, the son of the late Arthur Wright Rooks and Estelle Rooks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Lewis Rooks.

Surviving are his children, Judy (Willie) Rooks of Wilmington, Joseph (Thelma) Rooks of Rocky Point, June Blake of Wilmington and John (Sandi) Rooks of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Carol McClellan, Kevin Rooks, Angela Powell, Thomas Rooks, Roger Rooks, David Rooks, Matthew Rooks, Laura Rooks, Amber Wooten and Crystal Wooten; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Gray Moore and Velma Anderson both of Rocky Point, Mary Elizabeth Douglas of Leland, and Hilda Tompkins of Rocky Point; brother, Lorace Rooks; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rooks was one of the oldest members of Riley's Creek Baptist Church and was a retired Pender County farmer.

Norman, a hard working man of great faith and integrity, loved his family dearly. A favorite part of Norman's life was his vegetable garden that he worked in many days from dawn to dusk. He shared with friends and sold at the market the fruits of his labors.
Norman's Christian life was a shining example to his children and grandchildren. Cherished memories of Norman will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Riley's Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Melvin Hall officiating.

Burial will follow in Riley's Creek Memorial Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Allen Moore, Jimmy Huggins, Julian Anderson, Manley Moore, Douglas Moore and Jerry Shannon.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
