Norman Robert Waterman, 86, passed away at his home in Hampstead, North Carolina, on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, on September 6, 1940, Norman was the son of the late Norman Waterman and Mary (Nagle) Waterman and was the oldest of ten children. A gifted athlete, he attended Saint Peter’s College in New Jersey on a basketball scholarship before proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Norman was a devoted family man who cherished simple pleasures. He loved fishing, playing golf, and, above all, spending summers at the beach surrounded by those he loved most.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Margaret "Peggy" Forrest Waterman; his son, Matthew Waterman; his parents; and four of his siblings.

Norman is survived by his daughter, Maureen Waterman Sidbury and her husband, Larry, along with their children, Meg and Matthew; his daughter-in-law, Karyn Waterman, and her and Matthew's children, Marian and Noah; his siblings, Gail Bundy, Tommy Waterman, Richard Waterman (Hillary), Mary Best and Michael Waterman; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he deeply adored.

Honoring his request for simplicity, there will be no traditional service. His family will hold a private gathering.
