Thomas was born December 3, 1944, in Lake City, SC and passed away August 15, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. Preceded in death by his parents Sybil and Oscar Anderson of Lake City, SC and sister JoEllen Odom of Florence, SC and brother-in-law Jesse (Buster) James of Richlands, NC.
Thomas was employed by NCDOT in Wilmington. He retired in 2005 with 37 years of service as the Resident Engineer. He obtained his Professional Engineer License in 1991 and Registered Land Surveying License in 1982. In his earlier years he served as a Boy Scout Leader to Troop 274 for approximately 9 years. Thomas served in the National Guard for 6 years. He loved his family and enjoyed hosting oyster roasts, July 4th pool parties, taking his grandchildren on summer trips, basketball games and the Washington Redskins.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra, daughter Lynn Parker and husband Donny of Lucama, son Greg Anderson and wife Kristen of Carolina Beach. Grandson’s Dalton Parker of Lucama, Dillon Parker of Holly Springs, Banks and Coast Anderson of Carolina Beach. Granddaughter Loren Parker of Lucama. Sisters Loretta Tallevast of Hilton Head, SC, Brenda Martin and (Jack) of N. Charleston, SC. Mother-in-law Dorthy Philyaw of Richlands, NC and brothers-in-law Bill Odom of Florence, SC, Billy James of Richlands, NC, Rodney James (Glenda Turner) of Richlands, NC, Haywood James of Jacksonville, NC and sister-in-law Kathy King of Richlands, NC. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his CNA Sierra, nurse Sammie, Cindy and Amanda (volunteers) of Gentiva Hospice. Private caregiver Mary Usorio of Mary’s Caregivers. Chaplain Miles for all his many visits and prayers. My very special Aunt Zannie Brown and family for the many meals and the continuous well checks.
His funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington. The family will receive friends and visitors one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
