Obituary

Otha James "Bigon" Carter, 83, of Wallace, has fought the good fight, has kept the faith and has finished his race on Thursday, November 27, 2014. He is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with his loving wife of 55 years, Marcie "Eldrene" Spell Carter.

James, the son of the late Arby Herring and Betty Clyde Lockerman Carter was born on January 28, 1931 in Sampson County, NC. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Paul W. Carter, Joseph Edwards Carter, William David Carter, John Daniel Carter, Harry Carter, Odell Livingston Carter and Fredrick Hamilton Carter; sister, Dorothy Mae Wells and special friend, Edward Ray Bullard.

He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was employed with J.P. Stevens Textiles in Wallace for over 45 years. He was a life-long dedicated member of Northeast Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving is devoted sons, Terry Carter and wife, Karen of Dublin and Glen Herring Carter and wife, Brenda of Goldsboro; grandson, Jacob Carter; brother, the Reverend Herbert Carter and wife, Mary of Dunn; sisters, Edna Lois Keene and husband, Roy Maxton of Dunn, Evelyn Dixon Crawford and husband, David of Goldsboro and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

James or "Bigon" as he was affectionately called by family and friends was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his family dearly especially his grandson, Jacob, who was the apple of his eye. Never meeting a stranger, James loved people and enjoyed spending time sharing stories with family and friends. Being a proud father of two sons, he was always letting others know how proud he was of them. His favorite pastime was listening or watching southern gospel music, especially his favorite group, The Anchormen. A simple man with great integrity, James never forgot where he had come from and who never lost his respect for good and common people. He lived his life dedicated to his God, his family and his friends. James will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. It's not "˜good-by' to James, it's "˜see you later'.
