Obituary

Pearl Johnson Barnhill of Burgaw peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. She had served long and after 97 years departed her earthly life for her reward on Heaven's shore.

She was born October 29, 1918 in Pender County, the daughter of Egbert and Mattie Woodcock Johnson. In addition to her parents Pearl was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Lawrence Edison Barnhill; sister, Flora Anderson and brothers, Alton, Hubert, Johnnie and David Johnson.

Pearl is survived by her son, Roy and his wife, Jackie; sister, Wilma Day; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pearl was a member of Atkinson High School class of 1935. For many years Pearl worked with her brother and sister-in-law, Johnnie and Lois Johnson, in the grocery and florist business.

She was a faithful member of and loved Burgaw Baptist Church. Also, Pearl was a member of Burgaw Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed homemaking, working in her yard, crafting, and visiting family and friends. She enjoyed her porch which became her window to the world. Pearl was a strong, caring lady and will be missed.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with service at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Richard Phillips and The Rev. Gerald Morton will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park
