Obituary

Libby Raynor, 74, of Rocky Point passed peacefully from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington.

She was born March 19, 1937 in Wilmington to William Woodrow "Woody" and Pearl Hogan Sanderlin. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Ray Raynor; one great grandson; brother, William Thomas Sanderlin and sister, Norma Sanderlin.

Libby is survived by her sons, Rudolph Ray Raynor (Ruby) of Fayetteville, Edward "Eddie" Earl Raynor (Dee) of Rocky Point, and James William Raynor (Cindy) of Raleigh; daughters, Jamie Brittain (Tim) of Castle Hayne and Clelia Kay Raynor (Jeff) of Supply; step-son, James "Jimmy" Edward Furr, Jr. (Amanda) of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a special cousin who was like a sister, Bobbie Brooks.

Libby was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had a caring heart of gold and during her life she reached out with open arms and heart to family, friends and anyone in need of someone to care. Libby's grandchildren were the light of her life. Caring for all of God's creatures, she dearly loved her cats and dogs. Libby was self sacrificing and always put others before her own needs. Libby's legacy of love, caring for others and her gentle smile will always be treasured.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 23 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. Following the visitation a graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. at Scott Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Hansley officiating.

Casketbearers will be Rudy Raynor, Ernie Brittain, Cliff Lindsey, Cliff Lindsey, Brad Lindsey, Jeff Lindsey and Shelton Pearce. Honorary bearer will be L. H. King.
