Obituary

Rachel Hall Ezzell, age 83, of Wallace died Friday, July 31, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 31, 1926 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Leslie King and Effie Mabel Rivenbark Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Archie David Ezzell and later married Ira Henry "I.H." Ezzell who died in 2001. She was also predeceased by her son, William "Billy" David Ezzell; her sister, Bessie Mae Varga and brothers, Elbert Hall, Stedman Hall, Colon Hall, Leighton Hall, David Hall, Manley Hall and Brakely Hall.

Mrs. Ezzell was a retired bookkeeper and tax accountant who enjoyed helping others. She was a faithful member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church until relocating from Harrells to Wallace, where she became active in First Baptist Church of Wallace.

Surviving are her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Norwood Blanchard of Burgaw; step-son and step daughter-in-law, Ralph and Cindy Ezzell of Penderlea; grandchildren, Mark Shepard Farrior (Kirstin), Norwood Blanchard, III (Hillary), Jessica Ezzell and Matthew Ezzell; great grandchildren, Madeline Farrior, Jackson Farrior, Riley Blanchard, Sutton Blanchard and Ryan Sutton; special friend, Grace Rogers and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends 3:00 pm Sunday, August 2, 2009, one hour prior to the funeral service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating.

Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace.

Casketbearers will be Norwood Blanchard III, Ronnie Carter, Mark Farrior, Kendall Hall, Tom Hall and Mike Mathis.

To honor the request of Mrs. Rachel, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Rachel's caregivers; Lisa Newkirk, Mildred Dixon, Montrina Boney, Joyce Barnes, Tina Woodard and several others for their loving care and devotion to their mother and grandmother.
