Ralph Bordeaux, 89 (October 26, 1922-September 27, 2012) a lifelong resident of Castle Hayne passed from this life Thursday afternoon after a brief illness. Ralph was a pioneer in Adult Education and dedicated his life to "helping others help themselves". Ralph was one of the co-founders of the Wilmington Industrial Education Center, which became Cape Fear Technical Institute and later Cape Fear Community College where Ralph retired as the Associate Vice President. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division and participating in the invasion of Iwo Jima, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He always enjoyed being outdoors, and after retiring enjoyed propagating azaleas and camellias. In his younger years he was an avid painter and accomplished woodcarver.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rose Kerr Bordeaux, three sons, Randall, Jim (and Caroline), Dennis (and Kim), four Grandchildren, John, Melissa, Dominique, and Randy (and Elaine), three Great-grandsons; Brandon, Michael and Wyatt. Ralph was a Charter Member of the Wrightsboro United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Bradley Creek Chapel. A graveside service will be at 4:00 PM in the Bordeaux Family Cemetery on Oakley Road.
