Obituary

Ransom James "Buck" Whaley, Jr. 83 of Teachey, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at his home comforted by his loving family.

Buck was born in Duplin County on May 12, 1930, to the late Ransom James Whaley, Sr. and Cordelia Elizabeth Whaley. He was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Greta Jean Whaley; sisters, Carolyn James, Blanche Rivenbark, Mamie Feree, and brothers, Hubert Whaley, Manual Whaley and Norman Whaley.

Buck and Greta were successful owners and operators of Whaley's stores for over forty years.

He is survived by his loving children, Rita Whaley, Myra Matt and husband, Tim, Shirl Whaley and son, Ransom James "R.J." Whaley, III all of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan Wilson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Lindsey Jagger and husband, Demetrius of London, England, Andrea "Andi" Matt of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jillian Matt of New York, New York, Dylan Whaley and Hayden Whaley, both of Wilmington, North Carolina; great granddaughter, Lacey Wilson of Fredericksburg, Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Buck had a deep love of home and family. He was a man of genuine character whose sense of humor, wisdom and common-sense outlook touched everyone who knew him. He leaves behind many simple yet significant life lessons and a never-ending trail of laughter.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Ronald Ginn officiating.

Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at 2:00pm, one hour prior to the service and at other times at Buck's home.
