Remi C. "Doc" Savage, age 82, of Newton, NC died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the NC Veterans Home in Fayetteville.

Mr. Savage was born April 2, 1928 in Duplin County; the son of the late Jesse Cleveland Savage, Sr. and Fannie Register Savage. He was also predeceased by a son, Don Savage in June, 2006.

After graduating high school, R.C. enlisted in the US Army and served his country stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Upon an honorable discharge, "Doc" as he became widespread known, began his lifelong career with the NC Highway Patrol, of which he proudly and faithfully served the citizens of NC for 41 years. His two primary stations were Troop B in Wilmington for 27 years and Troop F in Newton for 14 years. Retiring on August 1, 1991, R.C. finally had the time to refine his many hobbies, one of which was that of a fine furniture craftsman. He authored and published History of the North Carolina Highway Patrol Radio in 2001. This invaluable resource details the chronological history of NCHP Radio Communications from inception to present day operations. Remi was a member of Wilmington Lodge #319 A.F. & A.M. of Wilmington, NC.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Luray Wood Savage of Newton; daughter, Sheri Savage Holland of Wilmington; son, Greg A. Savage and wife, Mariko of Coral Springs, FL; 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild and daughter-in-law, Audrey Savage of Newton.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Corinth Baptist Church with the Reverend Richard J. Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm Thursday, one hour prior the funeral service at Corinth Baptist Church.

Burial will follow with military honors in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace.

Casketbearers will be the North Carolina Highway Patrol Honor Guard.
