Renate Newton Pope, 53, of Rocky Point passed gently from her earthly life at her home on Monday, January 5, 2015 surrounded with love by her family.
She was born September 20, 1961 in Houston County, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Pope.
Renate is survived by her sons, Tony Paul Butler (Tina) and Kristian Newton Butler; mother, Margaret Wise Hodge and her husband, Herbert; father, Joseph Porter Newton; grandchildren; Kayla and Elliana Butler; brother, Brent Newton (Allyson); sisters, Enid Walker and Dora Simon (Bryan); former spouse and friend, David Butler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She maintained a strong Christian faith and most recently attended Burgaw Holiness Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Among the different avenues of work that Renate pursued, the one she most enjoyed was working as a hearing impaired interpreter with Brunswick County School System.
Renate was a devoted mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend who loved her family dearly. Renate's soft spoken words, steadfast faith in her Lord, and thankfulness for her many blessings spoke clearly to her family and friends. With her warm and sharing personality Renate gathered friends where ever she went. Her joy in life, Christian faith and love for her family are treasured and will not be forgotten.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Burgaw Holiness P.F.W.B. Church Family Life Center with memorial service at 7:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Pastor Ted Mercer will officiate.
