Carey Edward Horrell, Sr., 79, of Ivanhoe passed from his earthly life to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Wilmington with family at his bedside.
He was born October 15, 1933 in Bladen County, the son of the late Rufus Carr Horrell and Mattie Brown Horrell. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Carey is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Bobbie H. Horrell; children, Rev. Carey E. Horrell, Jr. (Rebakah) of Harrells, Gene Horrell (Kaye) of Arden, Vickie Johnson (Tommy) of Delco and Kevin Horrell (Elizabeth) of Asheville; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; brother, Hayes Horrell (Marilyn) of Wilmington; sisters, Gertie Hilton (Pete) of Warsaw and Mary Dyson of Raleigh; and many nieces, nephews and extended family who dearly loved Carey.
Rev. Horrell was an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and served a number of P.F.W.B. churches in Southeastern North Carolina during his God called ministry. Carey looked for the best in others while trying to give others the best of himself. His life was guided by a strong and practiced faith in God. His soft spoken words, warm heart and gentle manner will be remembered and cherished.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Caswell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carey Horrell, Jr., Rev. Joseph Horrell and Rev. Gregg Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
Carey's family would like to thank family, friends, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice staff, especially their nurse, Jennifer Register for the tender, loving care given to Carey during his illness and passing.
