Richard Lee Futrell, age 86, of Burgaw, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Care Center.

He was born July 8, 1930 in Lenoir County, NC; the son of the late John and Goldie King Futrell. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Minnie Lou Andrews Futrell; granddaughter, Golden Jennifer Adams and step-son, John Bailey.

Richard served his country honorably in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his daughter, Alma Spence and husband, Jimmy of Wallace; granddaughter, Stephanie Martinez and husband, Bert of Ivanhoe; grandsons, Anthony Ray Adams of Willard and Robert Lee Roy Adams; great grandchildren, Jonathan Gregory Arnette, Anthony Brian Arnette, Kenneth Skyler Grady and Katherine Clara Greene; great-great grandchildren, Navaeh Linn Arnette and Jonathan Brentley Arnette and numerous extended family and friends.

Richard was a loving husband and caring father and grandfather. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. With a big heart and gentle spirit Richard was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Richard.

Graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00am Monday, January 30, 2017 at Riverview Memorial Park in Watha.
