Richard Vernon Murray, 84, of Burgaw passed from his earthly life Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at his home on his beloved farm.

He was born at home May 24, 1939 in Burgaw, the son of Bernice Edward Murray and Katie Viola Brown Murray. In addition to his parents Vernon was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Durwood and Marie Murray and Jerry and Barbara Murray; and sister and brother-in-law, Lena and James King.

Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Judy Murray; son, Randy Murray; sister, Alma Roberts; brother, Lloyd Murray and his wife, Jane; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vernon was retired from the aircraft parts manufacturing section of General Electric Company in Castle Hayne.

First and foremost, Vernon loved and cared for his family. He was the BEST husband, daddy, brother, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for.

Being mechanically gifted Vernon was a man of many talents and could fix anything. He made a dump truck out of an old fire truck and two other old vehicles. He was known as a great tractor repairman. Vernon loved the family farm and the outdoors. On this farm Vernon built his own home from start to finish, back in the day when one could do that. In addition to his mechanical abilities, Vernon was an excellent cook. His specialty being cream puffs and fruit cakes, both of which take great culinary skill. Vernon's presence in our family circle will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Riverview Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Ben Horrell. The family will received friends at the cemetery following the service.
