Robert Samuel "Sammy" Caison, 74, of Watha passed from his earthly life to his eternal rest Thursday, March 10, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born January 17, 1937 in Pender County, the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Howard Caison. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hayes and daughter-in-law, Julie Caison.

Sammy leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 39 years, Olivia Gail Caison; sons, Robert "Bubba" S. Caison, Jr. of Watha and Joseph Caison (Lisa) of Ivanhoe; daughters, Elyse Crews (Frankie) of Willard and Angie Costin of Burgaw; eight grandchildren, Chris Caison, Shane Caison, Alexandria Hamon, Nathan Carter, Ashley Crews, Andrea Strickland, Jessica Costin, and Alyssa Caison; three great grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Hardison (Carl) and Elizabeth Abbott all of Watha; and special friends, Clarence Gurganous and Joab Johnson.

Mr. Caison was retired with 38 years of service with the NC Forest Service where he was one of the initial members of the Strike Team. Sammy was an avid deer hunter, but it is said he would rather hear the dogs run than kill a deer. Also he enjoyed fishing and just being outdoors in God's beautiful woods. With his jovial personality, he loved people and was loved in return. Most of all Sammy loved his family and was a devoted husband and wonderful daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother and friend. His friendly smile, hardy laughter, warm heart and gentle spirit will always be cherished.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Reverend Merrell McKoy officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends at the funeral home until 3:30 p.m.
