Robert "Bob" E. Cannon, Sr., age 79, of Wilmington; loving husband and devoted father, left this life for his eternal rest on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center with his wife and sons by his side.

He was born May 10, 1935 in Robeson County, the son of the late Reverend Abram B. and Magalene Burney Cannon. In addition to his parents, Bob was also predeceased by his brothers Charles W. and Kenneth P..

Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Giddings Cannon; sons, Robert E. Cannon, Jr., Charles Wayne Cannon and Glen F. Cannon (Dagmar); grandchildren, R.C., Kissy, Heather, and Shelby Cannon; great granddaughter, Macy Bunton; brother, Reverend James R. Cannon (Dot); sisters, Carolyn Fowler (James), Margaret Anderson and Betty Coleman; sister-in-law, Louise Rogers and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Wilmington Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Jim Cannon.

Interment will be at a later date at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.

Bob loved his family dearly and was a great provider for them. He believed in hard work, honesty and being a man of integrity. His favorite past time was camping, playing golf and being a square dance caller. Bob will surely be missed but cherished memories of him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
