Robert "Bob" Hermon Gurganious, 86, of Atkinson passed peacefully from his earthly life on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at NorthChase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with family at his bedside.

He was born August 21, 1927 in Rocky Mount, the son of the late Rodney and Victoria Kenan Gurganious. Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Rosalee and brother, Thomas.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley Mae Lintz Gurganious; daughters, Heather Greyvelle of Atkinson, Robyn Busch (John) of San Jose, CA, and Sheila Gantz (Bryan) of Las Cruces, NM; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Hazel Wells of Burgaw; brothers, George Gurganious (Margaret) of Friendswood, TX and James Gurganious of Orlando, FL and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Robert was a faithful and active member of Atkinson Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities as he was needed. In his younger years Bob and his two brothers-in-law owned Oakland Radio and TV. He served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II. Robert lived an active life dedicated to Jesus Christ. Bob founded Berean Baptist Church and Kings Christian School in Puyallup, Washington; salvaged and restored Community Baptist Church, a troubled church in San Marcus, Texas; founded Ambassador Christian School in Palmdale, California and served as administrator of a Christian school in Winder, Georgia.

Bob was a man of God and lived his life by Christian principles; setting an excellent example to all he came in contact with. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend who always took the best of care of his family. He lived his life by a simple creed: Be honest, love your neighbor and walk humbly with the Lord. His life was devoted to serving God and uplifting others. Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Atkinson Baptist Church with The Rev. Dr. Lynn Bullock officiating.

The family will receive friends in the church on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. until hour of the service.

In lieu of flowers monetary gifts in memory of Bob may be given to Atkinson Baptist Church Mission Fund, PO Box 368, Atkinson, NC 28421 or to Bob's family.
