Robert Dale
Matthews
Feb 25, 1929 — Oct 25, 2021
Robert Dale Matthews, Sr. age 92, left this life on earth for his eternal rest on Monday, October 25, 2021.
Born on February 25, 1929, in Bladen County, NC, Robert was the son of the late Algie and Lillie Mae Williams Matthews. He was also preceded in death by his best friend and wife of 68 years, Betty W. Matthews; his brothers, Wayland Matthews, and William Matthews; sisters, Dorothy Moore, Sue Scronce, Sarah Farney, and Maomia Jones.
Mr. Matthews proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was a faithful and devoted member of Wallace United Methodist Church.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his son, Robert "Bobby" Dale Matthews, Jr. and wife, Vickie of Williamston; his daughter, Mary Jayne Matthews of Greenville; grandsons, Drew Matthews and wife, Sarah and Trent Matthews and wife, Courtney; great grandchildren, Mary Cameron Matthews, Maddox Matthews, Winston Matthews and Declan Matthews; sisters, Lillian Wood and Reba Tiller; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that Robert loved dearly.
Robert was a loving husband and a caring father, grandfather and brother. He was a simple man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. Robert had a big heart, was humble and totally selfless. His life was dedicated to God and to taking care of his personal family and his church family. Robert attended Campbell College earlier in life and later became owner and operator of Robert Matthews Logging. He was a hard worker who never complained, he just got the job done. With a love for the outdoors, He enjoyed playing golf at Rockfish Country Club in Wallace. Robert was known as "friend" to so many in Wallace and the surrounding towns. He was, without a doubt, a gift from God. All who knew him were truly blessed.
