Mitchell
Nov 22, 1940 — Feb 5, 2017
Robert "Bob" Edward Mitchell, 76, of Kelly passed peacefully from his earthly life on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at home surrounded by his caring family.
He was born November 22, 1940, in Bladen County, the son of the late Charles Gaston Mitchell, Sr. and Evelyn Hite Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Donnette Kelly Mitchell; brother, Charles Gaston Mitchell, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Horace Potter and Dewey Barnhill; sister-in-law, Catherine Mitchell; and grandfather (Bob's namesake), Robert E. Hite.
Bob is survived by his sisters, Miriam Clark (David) of Elizabethtown, Martha Potter of Kelly, Marie Barnhill of Riegelwood, Ginny Myers (Dennis) of Wilmington; brother, Terry Hite Mitchell of Kelly; many nieces, nephews and cousins, all who loved Bob dearly.
We remember the years that Bob worked for NCDOT as the operator of Elwell Ferry, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Through the years his dogs brought him much joy and companionship, especially, Foxy, his most recent dog. Bob had a great love for God, his family, and his church, Centerville Baptist Church.
Bob always entertained family with his creative inventions. He loved making and creating new items, all of which were made with a sense of humor. This humor always kept his nieces and nephews well entertained. He also enjoyed the hobby of wood working. Wonderful memories of Bob will remain in our hearts.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Centerville Baptist Church with service beginning at 11:00 a.m.in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Lamont Hemminger will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Frenches Creek Cemetery.
Bob's family would like to thank Lori Anders, Velma Pizzuto, Diana Kelly, and Susie Harris for their loving care of Bob during his illness. Also thanks to Bob's special friends that were so attentive to him through out his life, especially during his illness.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Centerville Baptist Church Organ Fund, PO Box 27, Kelly, NC 28448.
