Robert "Bobby" Chancy Murray, III, age 70, of Willard, NC passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

He was born on January 1, 1952 in Wilmington, NC to the late Robert Chancy Murray, Jr. and Emma Lee Yopp Murray.

Bobby graduated from Hoggard High School in Wilmington in 1970. He then joined the U.S. Army and served for twenty years. Bobby served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm before retiring from the Army. He also served in the New Hanover County Fire Department for forty years. Bobby's service, along with his teaching firefighting, made him a well-known person in Pender, Brunswick and New Hanover counties. Bobby received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Hanover County Fire Department. He was an avid hunter who also repaired lawn mowers part time. Bobby knew a little about everything, and he never met a stranger.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Ulrike Hoersting Murray; son, Scott Christopher Murray (Meredith); daughter, Tina Alexandra Murray; sister, Sandee Spradley; nephew, Richard Stinson; and many cousins, other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his cousin, Benny Murray.

A memorial service will be held at Ogden Baptist Church, 7121 Market Street in Wilmington on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 3:30pm with Pastor Stephen Grubbs officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church starting at 2:00pm.
