Obituary

Robert Herman Orr, 85, of the Montague Community passed peacefully to his eternal rest on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at his home.

He was born October 23, 1926 in Wilmington, the son of the late Robert Herman Orr, Sr. and Alice Benson Orr. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Nadine Orr; infant brother, Clyde Marvin Orr; and sister, Marie Kelley.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Colleen Coleman Orr; daughter, Glenda Orr Sewell (Owen) of Montague; grandchildren, Kristen Sewell Dewberry (Joshua) and Brent Alexander Sewell; sisters, Louise Minatel of Buffalo, NY and Mae Ola Brinson of Burgaw; and several nieces and nephews.

He was retired from Babcock & Wilcox Company. He was a member of Riley's Creek Baptist Church, Atkinson Lodge 612 A.F. & A.M. and the Sudan Shriners. He served his country honorably in the US Army during WW II.

Robert was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, brother, uncle and friend. With his zest for life and witty personality he made friends easily and never met a stranger. There was not anything that Robert could not fix and he was often called upon for his expertise, sharing it willingly. His faith in God, love for his family and country will be remembered and always cherished.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Richard Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be James Davis, Steve Robinson, Michael Robinson, Billy Orr, Rex Key and Robert Tennille.

The family will receive friends at the Orr residence.

Memorial gifts may be given to Riley's Creek Baptist Church, 19845 NC Hwy 210, Rocky Point, NC 28457.
