Rose Marie Rutkowski (Nee Ponczynski), age 93, of Leland, NC and formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at New Hanover House in Wilmington, NC.

She was born on December 30, 1929 in Buffalo, NY to the late John Ponczynski and Rose Bolinski Ponczynski.

Losing your mom is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. Our Mom sacrificed so that we could have a better life. Rose was a true powerhouse, a remarkable tower of strength, any hardships she faced only made her stronger and more determined to carry on.  She was fearless, our Rock and our safe harbor. She was our Protector, she nurtured, cared for and loved us unconditionally.  We hope to honor Mom by living our lives, how she taught and showed us, just like her Mom did for her. "We loved her like there was no tomorrow, and then one day, there wasn't".

Rose is survived by her daughters Rosie (John) Sams, Diane (Tim) Popiela, Susan Zeh and Karen Brown; plus 12 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren and her Great-Great-Grandson.

Her husband, Chester Frances Rutkowski, Sr., passed on several years ago. Mom was also predeceased by her brothers, Harry Ponczynski and John Ponczynski; as well as her son, Chester Frances Rutkowski, Jr.

Very special mention to Rosie & John for everything they gave of themselves, their endless dedication, and care they provided to Mom, for the last 13 years, to the very end.
