Roy Edward Grymes, 66, of Hampstead passed from his earthly life on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.

He was born April 4, 1950 in Henrico County, VA, the son of the late Robert Jasper Grymes and Julia Elizabeth Walker Grymes.

He is survived by his son, Sandy Grymes (Cynthia) of Wilmington; daughter, Wendy Grymes Strickland (Shawn) of Hampstead; grandchildren, Gabe and Hannah Strickland, Lincoln and Isabella Grymes and Thomas Hill; brother, Robert Grymes, Jr.; and sisters, Ann Closson and Patricia Slade.

Roy was the president of the local 1999 Boilermakers Union where he was very active in planning and carrying out holiday food drives and establishing local food pantries.

He loved living close to the beach as he was an avid surfer. Roy, being a devoted and caring father, grandfather and brother enjoyed time with his family, particularly his five grandchildren. Abby, Marley and Blackbeard were three canine companions that he loved dearly. He will be missed by all who held him near and dear in their hearts.

Roy's family will gather to honor and remember his life on November 12, 2016 at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. If you plan to attend please contact family for time of the service.
