Roy Elder McKoy, age 84, of Burgaw died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Pender Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1924 in Pender County, the son of the late Rufus William and Berta Lue Parker McKoy. He was also predeceased by his son, Frank McKoy; brothers, Esmond, Merrel, and Rally McKoy; and sisters, Hazel McKoy, Lyda Mae Bond, Ruby Peterson and Luevina Vogt.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-two years, Patricia "Pat" McKoy; children, Esmond McKoy (Linda) of Beaver Dam, Virginia, Cynthia Ellis (Scott) of Kernersville, Braxton McKoy (Leanna) of Charlotte, Pamela Grayson of Jacksonville, Florida and Yvonne Velasco (P. J.) of Wake Forest; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Erlene Rowe (John) of Currie; step brother, Franklin Cottle (Margaret) of Wallace; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. McKoy served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II. He attended King's Chapel Church.
Roy was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. His joyful spirit, abiding faith and warm heart will always be remembered.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at King's Chapel Church with the Rev. Ronie Davis and The Rev. Merrell McKoy, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Red Door Cemetery, Shaw Hwy., Burgaw, with military honors accorded by the US Navy Honor Guard.
Casketbearers will be Creighton Brown, Gregory McKoy, Esmond McKoy, Jr., Braxton McKoy, Jr., Adam Pate and Scott Ellis.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the funeral service at King's Chapel Church and at other times will be at the McKoy residence.
