Obituary

Ruby Lee Chadwick, 91, of Burgaw died on Monday, October 17, 2022 and is awaiting the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born July 6, 1931 in Sampson County, the daughter of Idell and Dwain Davis of Jacksonville. In addition to her parents, Ruby was proceeded in death by her husband, Norwood Lee Chadwick; her two sons, Norwood Lynn Chadwick and Guy Nelson Chadwick; and her sister, Carolyn Davis Cordts.

Ruby is survived by her brother, Phillip Davis of Jacksonville; her daughters, Ruby Louise Blake of Winterville and Shirley Ann Brothers (Tim) of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Christy Wood Gehring of Colorado, Byron Wesley Blake (Reva) of Greenville, Alexis Hope Blake of Winterville, Nicole Chadwick Harness (Ronald) of Arizona, and Gabrielle Mullens of Arizona; five great grandchildren, Nora Jean Blake (Alex Romero) of Greenville, Matthew Byron Blake of Robersonville, Ella Gehring of Colorado, Byron Wesley Blake, Jr. of Greenville, and Wrighton Charles Denton of Winterville; and one great great grandson, Jonathan Mateo Romero of Greenville. Since hurricane Florence Ruby has shared a residence in Burgaw with Pat McKoy and they have grown to love each other like sisters.

Ruby was a strong woman of God and stood faithfully for God. She took Bible study classes with The Way International, a Biblical Research and Teaching Ministry. During her aging years she attended services at Mount Holly Baptist Church in Burgaw.

Ruby worked hard her entire life. As a teen she worked at Peoples Drug Store in Washington, D.C. where she met her husband after he returned from World War II. They married and moved back to North Carolina. Ruby worked on the Chadwick farm and raised a family. She worked at several stores: Roses, Westbrooks Dime Store, Dollar General, and Farrior's Department Store. Ruby decided she wanted to attend school and became a CNA. She was a wonderful caregiver and worked at several nursing facilities: Pender Assisted Living at Pender Memorial Hospital, Brookhaven in Jacksonville, Liberty Commons in Greenville, private duty at Cypress Glen in Greenville, and a private duty job in Burgaw. She was a dedicated worker and her patients loved her.

Ruby enjoyed making crafts, making various things. Gave them away and even sold some. She was a big giver all her life. Another thing she enjoyed was gardening. Both in her flowers and a vegetable garden. She had a green thumb. And blessed many with the fruits of her labor.

She was loved by many!! And will be greatly missed. Some of her defining characteristics were her kindness, generosity, compassion, and awe-inspiring love for God and His Word. She had the sweetness of sugar with a quick humorous wit. You could always count on her. If you needed something she was always there to help. She knew how to make someone smile. Those that loved her are comforted to know they will see her again when Christ returns.

By honoring Ms. Ruby's request there will be no formal service held.
