Obituary

Ruby Taylor Chasten, age 90, of Woodhaven, New York and formerly of Rose Hill, NC left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

She was born on November 9, 1932 in Arkansas; the daughter of the late Aleek Wiliey and Carenthia Walker Taylor.  Ruby was also predeceased  by her husband, James Westbrook Chasten; her sisters; Obie Taylor,  Armanda Taylor and Rena Taylor, and her brother, E.W. Taylor.

Surviving are her two sons, Kenya Chasten and wife, Keane of Woodhaven, New York and Gamal Chasten of Greenbrae, CA; grandchildren, Joshua Chasten, Javon Chasten, Zekai Chasten and Shermaine Ferdinad; great grandchildren, Julius Chasten, Josiah Chasten, Konnor Ferdinad, Liam Ferdinad and Micah Ferdinad; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mr. Byrdell Jr. and Mrs. Beulah Chasten , Mrs. Maryland Ward (sister), Mrs. Bernita Chasten, Mrs. Laverne Chasten, Ms Lisa Chasten, Mr. O'Neil and Mrs. Doretha Boney and Mr. Randy Pickett;   numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that loved Ruby dearly.

Ruby was a loving mother and caring grandmother and sister who loved her family very much.  She worked many years as a para professional teacher in which she enriched the lives of several children in New York.  She was a hard worker and dedicated teacher who stayed very busy. After she retired from teaching, Ruby remained being active. She was a great cook who always made sure everyone who came to her house was given something to eat....  Ruby loved life, loved to joke and loved to dance.  She loved her children very much; with a big heart and great sense of humor she was always there for them.  Ruby will surely be missed but treasured memories of her will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the chapel of Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, 612 S. Norwood Street, Wallace, NC 28466.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23rd, one hour prior the funeral service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service at  Rockfish Memorial Cemetery on NC Hwy 41 West, Wallace, NC.

At the request of the family, due to the increase of Covid and the flu virus, please wear a mask for your safety as well as others.
