Obituary

Ruby Walker Harts, 95, of Riley's Creek Community in Rocky Point passed gently from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Friday, June 10, 2011 at her home.

She was born July 26, 1915 in Pender County, the daughter of the late William George McCoy Walker and Florrie Williams Walker. Also remembered are her husband, Clarence H. Harts; brothers, Earl and George Walker; and daughter-in-law, Towana Harts all who preceded Ruby in death.

Ruby is survived by her son, Clarence Houston "C. H." Harts of Wilmington; daughters, Julia H. Pridgen (Jimmy) and Gloria H. Brinkley (Joe) all of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Frankie Pridgen (Sandi), Randy Pridgen (Karen), Stan Harts (Connie), Amy Dees, and Andy Brinkley (Lori); great grandchildren, Holt Pridgen, Lindsey Harts, Ashtyn Pridgen, Ricky Dees, Sammy Dees, Corey Harts, Cameron Gerganious, Tanner Gerganious and Laurin Rivenbark; bother, Elbert Houston Walker of Rocky Point; sister-in-law, Bettie Walker of Rocky Point and many extended family and friends.

Ruby was a member of Riley's Creek Baptist Church. After her children were grown Ruby embarked on a long and successful career in the florist business, opening Harts Florist of Burgaw in 1968 that she continued to own and operate until 1980. In 1980 Ruby established a second shop, Ruby Harts Florist in Rocky Point so that she could stay at home to help care for her mother and semi-retire with Clarence, her beloved husband. At the age of 90 Ruby was blessed to still be able to drive her station-wagon and work in her florist shop.

Ruby was a loving wife and the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend anyone could ask for. She loved and served the Lord and was the "caregiver" for her family. Being a diligent worker, Ruby enjoyed her vegetable garden and growing flowers. To the family she nurtured and those who counted her as a friend, Ruby was greatly admired for her creative talents, energy, enthusiasm, sense of humor and bright smile. Cherished memories of Ruby will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Jim Herchenhahn and The Rev. Parthena Skipper officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Frankie Pridgen, Randy Pridgen, Stan Harts, Andy Brinkley, Holt Pridgen, Mark Mintz and Nicholas Pridgen.

The family will receive friends 1 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Ruby loved flowers and they are welcomed. Also appreciated are memorial donations to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 or Riley's Creek Baptist church, 19845 NC Hwy 210, Rocky Point, NC 28457.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to caregiver, Kristie Pridgen and Lower Cape Hospice staff: Betty and Charlotte, nurses; Rev. Parthena Skipper, chaplain; Damera, C.N.A.; and Monica Bass, social worker.
