Russell Frank Gross, 64, of Rocky Point passed peacefully from his earthly life Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at his home.

He was born October 26, 1956 in Champaign County, IL the son of Robert Gross and Leta M. Webster Cole.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Lavigne.

Russell is survived by his wife, Valerie Gross; daughter, Jennifer Gross; son, Rusty Bryan Slocum; 3 grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Briggs and husband, Gale, Linda Tiller and husband, Mike; brothers, Joseph Lavigne and wife, Maria, John Lavigne; and many nieces and nephews.

Russell considered it his honor and privilege to serve his country in the US Navy on the USS Julius A. Furer. During the Vietnam Era, he also safe guarded for the aircraft carrier the USS Roosevelt. He served with pride, dedication and loyalty.

He was devoted to his family and loyal to his friends. Russell found great joy in fishing, playing video games, and wood working.
