Russell "Rusty" Franklin Lanier, Jr., 55, of Chinquapin left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center.

He was born April 13, 1960 in Honolulu, Hawaii; the son of Russell Lanier, Sr. of Lyman and the late Carol Pierce Lanier. He was also predeceased by his sister, Pamela Mercer.

Russell served his country proudly in the US Navy and US Coast Guard.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and devoted wife of 27 years, Kaye Murray Lanier; sons, Aaron Kennedy (Angelica) of Chinquapin and Joshua Lanier of Texas; daughter, Victoria Lanier of New Mexico; grandchildren, Kristian Kennedy, Samantha Kennedy, Jonathan Kennedy, Karen Hernandez and Wyatt Lanier; great grandchildren, Rose and Stephan; brother, Brad Lanier (Jayme) of Kenansville; sisters, Sandy Malone (CD) of Emerald Isle and Rosemary Lee (Terry) of Clinton; his devout canine companion, "Peanut" and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family who loved Rusty dearly.

"Rusty", as he was affectionately called was a loving husband and caring daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. He enjoyed the simplest things in life but his greatest joy was family. Rusty was a man of many talents which included cooking, playing musical instruments and was a fabulous storyteller. With his witty personality and sense of humor, Rusty loved to laugh and loved to make others laugh. He was a funny guy and always had a good joke to tell. His favorite pastime was fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with his family. Rusty was a man tall in stature but gentle in nature. His warmth and loving spirit was demonstrated to everyone he met. Rusty was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Cherished memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved Rusty.
