Obituary

Ruth Brown Norris, 84, of Wallace left this life for her eternal rest on Monday, August 3, 2020.

She was born on September 29, 1935 in Duplin County; the daughter of the late Willie Alton and Nealie Dew Brown.  She was predeceased by her husband, Johnnie Norris; her son, Gary Stewart Cavenaugh, great grandson, Ayden Thomas Cavenaugh; siblings, Homer Carr Brown, Clarence Brown, Mildred Williams, and Thelma Sitgreaves.

Ruth was a current dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Wallace VFW since 1979.  During her tenure, she served two years as Treasurer and assisted with several benefits and fundraisers for various needs. She helped with dinners for Gold Star Mothers. Ruth enjoyed the fellowship and being a vital part in helping others.

Surviving are her loving children, Tony Lyle Cavenaugh and wife, Judy of Rose Hill, Steve Cavenaugh of the home and Richard Gaylor Cavenaugh and wife, Dawn of Beaufort, SC; grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Cavenaugh Jones, Seth Thomas Cavenaugh, Meghan Nicole Cavenaugh, Corey Stephen Cavenaugh, Trey Cavenaugh, R.J. Cavenaugh, Angela Norris and Morgan Michell Walsh and husband, Ian; great grandchildren, Anna Logan Jones, Hailey Nicole Cavenaugh, Jamie Isabella Cavenaugh, Tatum Kole Smith, Ava Grace Hollingsworth, Madilyn Isabella Walsh, Michael McNeil, Alex McNeil, Courtney McNeil, Haley Norris and Durwood Kirk Norris; brother, Billy Brown and wife, Betty of Rose Hill, sister-in-law, Jane Brown of Rose Hill; special friends, Bobby and Shelby Blanton of Pink Hill, Emma Creighton of Alabama, Gaynell Hunter of Wallace and Queenie Costin of Willard and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly.  She enjoyed the simplest things in life but her greatest joy was her family.  She was a good cook and gave of herself unselfishly. She was a woman of beauty and grace who took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed watching TV, especially when Dr. Phil and Judge Judy was on.   She was not one to brag unless she was speaking of her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she was so proud of.  Ruth gave so much of herself as she cared for her handicapped son, Gary, throughout the years.  Ruth will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
