Ruth Lois Reitz, 74, of Burgaw passed gently from this earth on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.

She was born November 3, 1935 in Baltimore, Marryland, the daughter of the late John Miles and Irva Joy Henck. She was preceded in death by her sisters, May Henck and Eunice Prosperi.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Donald Lee Reitz; son, Ernest Lee Reitz, Sr. and wife, Elizabeth of Burgaw; daughter, Donna Reitz Croom and husband, Rudy of Wilmington; a special granddaughter, Janice Reitz who lovingly helped to care for her grandmother; grandsons, Justin Croom, Ernest Lee Reitz, Jr., and Jared Croom; brothers, Samuel Henck and wife, Joyce of Boxford, Massachusetts and Robert Henck and wife, Marilyn of Wells River, Vermont; and sisters, Grace Reiter of Wilmington and Emily Hoover and husband, James of Seal Beach, California.

Ruth had been a member of Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church and most recently a member of North Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She was a loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was loved and will be greatly missed. Ruth's beautiful smile, gentle spirit and steadfast faith in the Lord will be cherished and always remembered.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23 at Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Rd, Wilmington. Following the gathering of family and friends a Celebration of Ruth Reitz's life will be at 11:00 a.m. at the church with The Rev. Jim Glasgow officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park, 9332 US Hwy 117, Watha, with The Rev. Travis Martin officiating.

Casketbearers will be Charles Parrish, James Reiter, Gary Stephens, Jim Smith, Wilbur Davis and John Hicks.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Rd, Wilmington, NC 28409.
