Sally Elizabeth
Mason
Dec 11, 1922 — Dec 8, 2021
Sally Elizabeth Gabriel Mason died on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, just shy of her 99th birthday, surrounded by her family. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 11, 1922 to Sally Ozora Springle and George Frederick Gabriel. Sally relocated to Rocky Point, NC in the mid 1990's.
Sally retired from the JCPenney Company after forty years of loyal service. After moving to North Carolina, she became a faithful member of McClure Memorial Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities. Her position as Elder was one of great pride and importance to her. She also thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir. For many years and during election time, Sally worked for the Board of Elections in Pender County assisting voters, mainly elderly, who were unable to come into their respective precincts to vote.
Upon the birth of her first great-grandchild, Sally was lovingly given the endearing name "Grandma Gertie", and it truly seemed to fit her perfectly. Her two great-grandsons were dear to her heart and blessings in her life. Sally was known for her kind, feisty spirit and quick wit. Her family will deeply miss her but are comforted by God's word and assurance of eternal life.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Peggy Elizabeth Lanier and husband, Sammy; granddaughter, Karen Lynn Rouse and husband, Bruce; great-grandsons, Chadd Rouse and Chase Rouse; niece, Bettie Osier; four nephews, Jerry Blair Lloyd (Sally), Randy Lloyd (Stephanie), Bill Mason (Joan), Wayne Justus (Bonnie) and a host of close church family and friends.
Sally was preceded in death by the "love of her life" of forty-eight years, husband, Benjamin Howard Mason and a sister, Ruby Gabriel Duke.
A celebration of Sally's life will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to McClure Memorial Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 246, Castle Hayne, NC 28429.
In addition, the family would genuinely appreciate special memories and condolences shared by selecting Tribute Wall.
Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home of Burgaw.
