Salvatore (Sal) Frank Carrera, 82, of Wilmington, NC passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 after a long and brave fight with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vera, of 56 years; his four sons, Arthur, Reynold (wife, Atlanta), Steven (wife, Andrea), and Sal Jr.; his niece, Mary Lou; and his eight grandchildren, Lana, Christina, Patrick, Jeremy, Hank, Abby, Matthew, and Jennifer.

Sal was born to the late John & Maria Carrera, in New York City on November 13, 1930. Sal proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Fire Machinist Mate on the U.S.S. F.D. Roosevelt, from October 25, 1951 until August 17, 1953.

Sal and Vera married on June 1, 1957, at Most Precious Blood Church in Brooklyn, New York. Sal began his professional career in Manhattan as a Mechanical Draftsman, and then he quickly moved to Grumman Aerospace. Sal retired from the Federal Paper Board Co. Inc., Riegelwood, NC after working as a Mechanical Engineering Designer for 17 years.

Sal was an active member of his community for many years. He proudly served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, was a well known member of the Elks Club as well as the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church where he served on the council, served as an usher, and served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for many years. Throughout life Sal was a passionate Yankees fan, loved building models and second only to his family, he loved a good meal.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 22, 2013 in the Chapel at St. Mark Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at St. Mark's Columbarium. Reception will follow at St. Mark Catholic Church.
