Obituary

Samuel Curtis Proctor, age 76, of Wilmington passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.

He was born May 16, 1940 in Florence County, South Carolina the son of the late Stephen Curtis Proctor and Frances Player Proctor.

Mr. Proctor proudly served his country in the United States Army where he served a year in South Korea.

He started flying planes at the age of fourteen and had a passion for it all of his life, which led to a fulfilling and rewarding career with Piedmont and US Air Ways, where he was a pilot for 29 years. Sam enjoyed playing golf, creating art and painting, racing cars, was an avid reader, and loved to spend time with his family and friends. Sam was a member of PSE and QB. He was a friendly man who always had a kind word for others, never met a stranger and had an infectious smile that was combined with an amazing sense of humor.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 37 years, Karen "KC" Clark Proctor of Wilmington, NC; sister, Elizabeth McDonald and husband Edward McDonald; nephew, Ron Joye and wife Stefanie; great nephews, Curt and Tripp Joye; canine buddy, Benni; and numerous other family and friends, especially his Piedmont family.

The family will receive friends from 4PM until 8PM Friday, January 20, 2017 at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel.

A funeral service will be held 2 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be 1 PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Washington Memorial Park 6217 Memorial Dr, Sandston, VA 23150.

Interment will be held at a later date at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston, Virginia.
