Sarah Woodcock Atkinson, 70, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Pender Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

She was born August 22, 1941 in Pender County, one of 11 children of Manuay and Agnes Malpass Woodcock. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Atkinson in 1975; sister, Elsie Barnhill and brothers, Everett, Stacey, Lewis, Harold and Danny Woodcock.

Sarah is survived by her loving family; daughter, Terri Gray (Ivey); grandchildren, David Gray and Jessica Corbett (Brent); great grandchildren, Maryrose Gray, John David Gray, Hunter Gray, Ethan Futrell and Riley Corbett; sisters, Daisy Kelly (Walter), Janice Norris, Drucille King, and Dixie Malpass; many nieces and nephews.

Sarah loved her family and was always seeing to the needs of others, these characteristics defined her very essence. Her smile, her joy in life will be greatly missed but never forgotten. So, we her family and friends, say not goodbye but only till later when we will meet again in God's Heavenly Kingdom. We know Sarah is in paradise, smiling in eternal peace.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor John Barnes officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday at 10:00 a.m. until hour of the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Sarah Atkinson.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Church, 4670 Stag Park Rd., Burgaw NC 28425.
