Obituary

Sarah Hazel Blume, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed gently from her earthly life on Monday, April 29, 2013.

She was born August 18, 1929 in Anderson County, SC, the daughter of the late John Walter and Corrie Taylor Hall.

Hazel is survived by her husband of 64 years, Boyce A. Blume; children, Barbara J. Blume, Carl B. Blume (Senie), Sandra B. Nunalee and John I. Blume (Chris); nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Welborn, Kathleen Scarborough and Edna Poore; brother, Clarence Hall and many extended family and friends.

Hazel was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church and in years past enjoyed quilting with Quilters By the Sea in Wilmington.

Hazel was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. With a joyful spirit Hazel, a stay-at-home mom, filled her home with love, sunshine and good cooking. She loved teaching her granddaughters how to make biscuits. In addition to making quilts, she was an expert seamstress. Always with a smile and a kind word to greet you, Hazel set a positive example for her children to follow. She was a strong, courageous, yet gentle lady who brought out the good in all those near and dear to her. Hazel's family is grateful to God for her life and for your kindness, friendship and prayers.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Burgaw Baptist Church with The Rev. Nathan Morton and Dr. Clarence Dodgens officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington.
