Obituary

Sarah Ann Griffin, 67, of Wilmington, NC died November 3, 2014 after a 10-year battle with cancer.

Sarah was born, November 25, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of Robert and Billie Hanner. Sarah graduated from Kings College in Charlotte, NC. She married Randolph James Griffin on August 6, 1967. Sarah and Randy, raised two children in Wrightsville Beach, NC before moving near the intercostal waterway in Wilmington, NC.

They have attended Wrightsville Beach United Methodist Church since 1976. Sarah worked with the Holiday Inn on Wrightsville Beach, and later with Landfall Country Club before retiring.

Sarah's priority in life was her family and friends. In addition to her husband Sarah is survived in life by her children, Tiffany Anne Griffin, and Randolph Griffin Jr., and his wife Shayna Griffin, four grandchildren Jack, Nikita, Ayden and Aaron, her sister Frances Conoly and her husband Don Conoly, her brother Scott Hanner and his wife Ava Hanner along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sarah was diagnosed with cancer in 2005; with support from her family and friends and aggressive treatment from Duke University Medical Center she remained cancer free for 6 years. Her goal was to be sure her young grandchildren would know and remember her. She spent those 6 years joyously creating lasting memories with friends, family and loved ones. In 2011 she was diagnosed with radiation-induced osteosarcoma and she received treatment again from Duke that resulted in another period of no detectable sings of cancer that allowed her to continue to enjoy her life. A little over a year ago she had a reoccurrence of cancer that was successfully removed. She was still able to make her annual August family reunion this year to her favorite place in Abingdon, Va. After a surgery in September the cancer returned.

The family would like to thank their Wrightsville United Methodist Church family for the continued prayers and blessings they provided through out their lives and most significantly during Sarah's battles with cancer.
