Obituary

Saundra Matthews Braun, 65, of Wilmington, NC passed from this earthly life to her eternal rest on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 fro mNew Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on October 22, 1955 in Duplin County; the daughter of the late Edward A. and Ethel Boone Matthews.

Surviving to cherish her love and memory is her devoted husband of 13 years, Charles "Chuck" Braun of Wilmington; daughter, Samantha Braun; granddaughters, Lauren Wilson and Madison Wilson; sisters, Betty Cavenaugh of Wilmington and Gerlene Cavenaugh of Greensboro;  brother, Larry Matthews of Rose Hill; her two canine companions whom she called her 'kids',  Harley and Davidson; numerous extended family and friends that loved Saundra dearly.

To know Saundra was to love her.  She was a loving wife and caring mother, grandmother and sister.  A woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace; and to those who knew her, she was "an instrument of God's love on this earth."  Saundra was a friend to all, a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone.  With a pure heart, she truly loved others unconditionally and would do anything she for those in need.  Saundra loved her husband with all her heart and was loved in return.  They were more than husband and wife, they were best friends.  She also loved her brother, Larry and always wanted to make sure he was taken care of.  Being a woman of faith, Saundra had a deep, private relationship with God and demonstrated her faith in the way she lived her life. Saundra will surely be missed but wonderful memories will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Duplin Memorial Gardens.  Family and friends may gather at the cemetery at 10:30am.
