Obituary

Sharon "Sherry" Meeks Hawes of Rocky Point went to join the angels in heaven on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 29, 1948 in Pender County to Carl and Gladys Meeks. She is predeceased by her sister, Ethel Meeks Moore and her parents. Sherry leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 39 years, Mike Hawes; son, Darren Hawes; daughter Sharon Hawes Rowell; granddaughter, Brooke Rowell; sister, Carlene Meeks Padgett and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sherry was a joy to be around; her sunny smile and joyous laughter brightened any room she entered or any event she attended. Oh! How Sherry loved spending time with family and friends at her Camp Clearwater place at White Lake. With her outgoing personality Sherry never met a stranger and thus had many friends near and far. For several years Sherry worked as a supervisor at Whispersoft in Rose Hill and later worked with the Pender County School System. Sherry was a devoted grandma, wife, mama, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sherry's family would like to say a special thank you to all those at the Zimmer Cancer Center, especially the Zimmer radiation department. Many thanks to all of her special friends and family who gave of their time, love and support during Sherry's lengthy cancer battle.

A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel followed by a time of visitation and sharing until 8:00 p.m. The Rev. William Hill Pearsall will conduct the service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation for Zimmer Cancer Center, 2259 S. 17th St., Wilmington NC 289401 or Community Home Care and Hospice, 117 Village Rd, Suite E, Leland, NC 28451.
