Obituary

Sheila Robinson Barnhill, age 73, of Burgaw passed peacefully from this earth to her eternal rest on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born February 24, 1937 in Providence, Rhode Island and was the daughter of the late Henry and Rose Gilman Robinson. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Ernest Barnhill.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Ann Barnhill Sholar (Fred) of Burgaw, Cheryl Barnhill Skeen (Elliott) of Denton and Linda Barnhill Goldfarb (Ira) of Raleigh; son, David M. Barnhill (Sheila) of Boone; grandchildren, Brian Barnhill, Kevin Barnhill, Megan Skeen, Emily Sholar, Chris Sholar, Brandon Sholar, Rachael Schwartz, Michelle Batson and Brittany Batson; and sisters, Phyllis Teitel (Abraham) of Boston. Massachusetts and Marilyn Whitworth of Mauldin, South Carolina.

For many years Mrs. Barnhill owned and operated Sheila's Place of Gifts in Burgaw and most recently she worked at the switchboard at Pender Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Church and W. Dudley Robbins American Legion Post # 165 Ladies Auxiliary, where she had served as president.

Sheila was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Always with a smile on her face and a kind word to greet you, she set a positive example for her children to follow. She was a strong, courageous and yet gentle lady who brought out the good in all of those who were near and dear to her. Sheila's family is grateful to God for her life and they consider themselves blessed to have had such a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. William Hill Pearsall officiating. Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Roger Sholar, Chris Sholar, Brian Barnhill, Don Johnson, Bobby Carter, and David Long.

The family will receive friends 3 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Ann and Fred Sholar.
