Sheila Peterson Thorpe, 69, of Burgaw, NC passed away on February 14, 2021 after battling a brief illness. Sheila was born in Wilmington, NC on July 19, 1951 to the late Clarence James Peterson and Helen Riddle Peterson.

In addition to her parents, Sheila is preceded in death by her brother Clarence Jefferson Peterson, sister-in-law Cathy Craig Peterson and sister Margret Peterson Murphy.

Sheila is survived by husband, Woodus Edison Thorpe Jr; son, Jeremy Thorpe and wife Melissa Thorpe; granddaughter Jennifer Jacobs and husband Marcus Jacobs; grandchildren, Madison Thorpe, Gwendoyln Thorpe, Abby Thorpe, Abbott Thorpe, Julian Thorpe, Jeffery Brooks, and Zachary Brooks; great grandchildren, Jonah Jacobs and Kelela Jacobs; niece, Kathryn Hicks and husband Mike Hicks; as well as a large extended family.

Sheila was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was devoted to her family and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She left this earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Burgaw, NC. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and her faith. She had the brightest smile and whenever she was around, she made those around her smile too. Her smile would light up the darkest room; wherever she went, she brought pure joy to the people around her.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, located at 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412 with Pastor Paul Couch officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00am – 12:00pm at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Chapel, Burgaw, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
