Sheldon Lynn Carney, 61, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington following a long illness.

He was born on April 30, 1962, in Wilmington, to the late Clarence and Betty Jean (Wilkins) Carney.

Sheldon worked as a security officer at the Port of Wilmington and enjoyed building model cars. Most importantly, he put his trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sheldon is survived by his brother, Michael Carney and wife, Angie; his sister, Velda Gay and husband, Alan; his nieces, Christy Hunt, Jennifer Gay, Brenda Gay, Allison Gay, Patricia Bass, Rhonda Carr; cousins, Debbie Duke, Charles Copeland, Rose Hill; great nephew, Jeremy Gay; aunt, Shirley Stokley; and a host of other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Sheldon was also preceded in death by his brother, James Carney; and his sister, Doris Price.
