Sherman Batchelor, age 92, of Watha left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from Quinn Hospice Care Center, Kenansville.

He was born on August 20, 1922, in Duplin County and was the son of the late John James and Barcelona Pierce Batchelor. He is also predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Violet Crumpler Batchelor; brothers, Roland Floyd Batchelor, Clifton Braxton Batchelor and Herman Batchelor and sister, Leona Batchelor Mobley.

Mr. Batchelor served his country honorably in the US Navy during WWII and was employed J.P. Stevens Textile Company for 35 years.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted children, Ellen Batchelor of Watha and Avery Batchelor of Pin Hook; brothers, Doctor Benjamin "D.B." Batchelor and wife, Linda of Warsaw, Lennon Dawson Batchelor of Rose Hill and Eldridge Guy Batchelor and wife, Dorothy of Wilmington and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherman was a caring father and brother who loved his family dearly. He was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening, farming and working with bees. Sherman will be remembered as an honorable man with a kind heart, determined spirit, zest for life, and an enjoyable sense of humor. More importantly, he loved his family above all else.

Graveside service will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Crumpler Family Cemetery in Watha with Ernest Patterson officiating.

The family received friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.
