Shirley Lee McKinney, 87, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

She was born on February 14, 1936, in New Hanover County to the late Ralph and Louise (George) Farrow.

Shirley, an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Leland, loved to clean and kept an immaculate house. She worked for Ad-Pak for many years. Shirley was a very giving person and would go without, so others would not. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be deeply missed. She was a loving wife to John Wright McKinney.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Robin McKinney Northam and husband, Gary, Debbie Fry and husband, Douglas; brother, Danny Lee Farrow and wife, Beth; sister, Margie Louise Hinson; grandchildren, Kevin Fry and wife, Kristen, Gary Northam (Brandy Bell), Bryan Northam and wife, Erin, Gregory Fry and wife, Sarah, Johnathan Northam and wife, Kirbe; numerous great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, John Wright McKinney; sister, Joan Arms; and her granddaughter, Shannon Paligo.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Nelson Cemetery in Leland with Bishop Darren Shipman officiating.
