Shirley Warner
Worsley
Aug 31, 1934 — Feb 28, 2023
Shirley Warner Worsley, of Elizabethtown, NC, passed away at the age of 88 on February 28, 2023 surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on August 31, 1934 and grew up in Clarkton, NC. She was the daughter of the late Miriam Huggins Warner and Wilton McBryde Warner. After high school, while working for E.J. Cox Company as a bookkeeper, she met Donald Worsley. Shirley and Donald married in 1960, made their home in Elizabethtown, and shared sixty years of marriage.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. As a young girl, she learned to play the piano and this gift turned out to be an immense source of joy over her lifetime. She took great pleasure in playing each day at home and on Sundays for a children's Sunday School class. Shirley had a servant's heart and her faith was steadfast. She was a devoted member of Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church where she was active in Circle leadership and served as an Elder as well as many other volunteer positions over sixty years. Her faith inspired her family members' spiritual journeys through the example she set for them. Shirley led a life of kindness, grace, and love. She shared a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and loved nothing more than spending time with her family who appreciated her quick wit and keen sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ashe Worsley, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilton McBryde Warner, Sr., her brother, Wilton McBryde Warner, Jr., and her granddaughter, Madeline Frances Worsley. Shirley is survived by her children, Don Worsley (Shawna), Julie Chappell (Stephen), Jill Rogers (Michael) and seven grandchildren: Andrew Chappell, Collin Chappell, Caroline Chappell, Adam Worsley, Michael Rogers, Anna Rogers and Emma Rogers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, with a visitation to follow. She will be laid to rest in a private graveside service prior to the celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 576, Elizabethtown, NC 28337 or Liberty Hospice of Wilmington, 420 Eastwood Road, Suite 101, Wilmington, NC 28403.
