Smithie Rhodes Deans-Tobin, 92, of Wallace left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from ECU Health Duplin Hospital.

She was born on February 22, 1930 in Johnson County, NC; the daughter of the late Charley R. and Smithy Margaret Guin Rhodes.  Mrs. Tobin was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Marvin Deans and the Reverend C.R. Tobin and her eleven siblings.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patricia Ann Spell and husband, Ray of Wallace, Lacy Dianne Wood and husband, Robert of Clinton and LaVeryl Brown and husband, Mark of Hertford; grandchildren, Darrell Spell and wife, Meredith, Kim Jones and husband, Ray, Reverend James Kenneth Smith and wife, Jessica, Russell Brown and Parker Brown; eleven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; sister, Imogene Swinson of Henderson; numerous, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Smithie dearly.

Smithie was a devoted mother and caring grandmother and sister who loved her family very much.  She was a simple lady who enjoyed the simple things in life but her greatest joy was her family and her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She was a woman of faith who demonstrated God's love on this earth.  Smithie loved the beauty of nature, the birds that she fed in her yard, flowers that bloomed, and especially her gray beard flowering tree.  With a loving heart and humble spirit, she loved everyone and would help anyone in need. Smithie will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
