Stanley Joseph "Stan" Nawrocki, age 85, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Davis Health and Wellness Center at Cambridge Village in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Stan was born on March 10, 1939, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Walter Nawrocki and the late Sophie Macielak Nawrocki.

He graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, in 1960. After serving for several years as a high school math teacher, Stan embarked on a long and successful career in banking. Due to all four of Stan's grandparents being Polish immigrants, his ability to speak Polish, and his professional experience, Stan was commissioned by the federal government to travel to Poland in 1995 to help set up a national checking system in Poland. He and his wife lived in Warsaw until retirement in 1998. Stan, known to his family as Stas', loved to play golf and watch the Chicago Bears. He also loved playing cards with his family, and was frequently the winner of endless games of poker, pinochle and Oh Hell. He was very active in the Porters Neck Village Community, serving on the finance committee and in the Associates Appreciation Fund. In spite of many moves across the country, everything worked out in the end.

Stan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret "Peggy" Nawrocki; his daughter, Susan Swanson; his son Michael Nawrocki and wife, Kathryn; his son Thomas Nawrocki; his sister, Eleanor Maggio; his grandchildren, Cory Swanson and wife, Meghan; Mary Margaret Swanson Phillips and husband, Matthew; Samuel Swanson, Trey Swanson, Kenia Swanson, Brett Swanson, Lemon Nawrocki, Edward Nawrocki, John Nawrocki, Mark Nawrocki; and his great-grandchildren, Theodore Swanson, Ada Phillips, Gabriel Phillips, Jude Phillips, Zelie Phillips, and Simon Phillips. In addition to his parents, Stan was also preceded in death by his brother, Walter Nawrocki Jr., his sister, Theresa Bajgrowicz; and son-in-law, Cort Swanson.

Stan's memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington.
