Obituary

Stephen (Steve) McCann, peacefully passed away in his home in Wilmington, North Carolina on Sept 2, 2015.

Stephen Michael McCann was born to Barbara McCann and the late Edward V. McCann on June 17, 1959 in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to his mother Barbara McCann, Steve is also survived by his wife Carol Coogan McCann, his daughter Kellie McCann, brothers Edward and Michael McCann, in-laws Raymond and Colleen Coogan, Robert and Margaret Carlson, nieces Hannah and Erin Coogan, nephew Cody McCann and many other family members and close friends, all of whom played major roles in his life and whom he loved dearly.

Steve was extremely passionate about his work. He took pride in volunteering for Hope Jackson Fire Department and also in his role as a firefighter and emergency medical technician for Anthony Fire Department in Coventry, RI. After moving to Wilmington, NC, Steve then dedicated 20 years of his life to New Hanover Regional EMS. Steve played a prominent role in the establishment of VitaLink and also took on the role of Logistics Officer. He was known for making many things possible for anyone who was in need of his help.

He also adored his loving wife of 30 years, Carol McCann and his daughter Kellie who he lovingly would refer to as his Irish rose. His legacy is sure to live on in all the beautiful memories of all that cared for him.

Amongst many other things Steve thoroughly enjoyed collecting Code 3 memorabilia, NASCAR, grilling out, tailgating, reading and was a history buff. Steve showed great enthusiasm for many New England sports teams but could most commonly be seen locally supporting his daughter Kellie at all of her soccer matches.

Steve's family would like to wholeheartedly extend their utmost gratitude to his family and close friends for their consistent love, patience and support and to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their kind care and assistance throughout this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1406 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC or lcfhfoundation.org
