Obituary

Atkinson- Sudie Mae Horrell, age 90, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Pender Memorial Hospital

She was born July 15, 1920 in Bladen County, one of eight children born to Arthur Hayes and Willie Mae Barnhill Horrell. Also remembered are her husband, Jonathan Seross Horrell; sister, Berta Tompkins and brother, Cecil "Dick" Horrell.

Sudie is survived by her beloved daughter, Connie Wells and her husband, Dr. George Wells, Jr., of Burgaw; granddaughters, Amy W. Ramos and her husband, Ray of Atkinson and Rebecca W. Denson and her husband, Travis of Windermere, FL; her niece who was like a granddaughter, Jennifer Harvell Barnes of Atkinson; great grandchildren, Hannah Cavanaugh, Taylor Denson, Courtney Cavanaugh, Donovan Ramos, Brandon Ramos and Evan Ramos; sisters, Shirley Harvell of Atkinson, Lillian Russ of Burgaw, and Verna Asbury of Ocoee, FL; brothers, Larry "Cutch" Horrell of Ivanhoe and Irvin Horrell and his wife, Catherine of Hampton, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Horrell was a faithful member of Atkinson Baptist Church. For a number of years she was manager of the Atkinson High School cafeteria and continued her career in food service by becoming Director of Child Nutrition of Pender County Schools.

Sudie Mae's greatest joys in life were serving her Lord, caring for her family and tending her garden. She was noted for her delectable home cooked meals. All through her life she set a true example of a Christian life and touched many lives with her soft spoken, loving, caring, gentle nature.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Atkinson Baptist Church with The Rev. Douglas Warnock and The Rev. Melvin Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Phil Horrell, Victor Horrell, Stan Harvell, Dane Horrell, Steven Horrell and Bill Ivey. Honorary bearers will be Wayne Horrell, Jack Turner and Gene Jordan.

The family will receive friends 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in the church fellowship hall prior to the funeral service. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and George Wells in Burgaw.

Sudie Mae was very appreciative to all who were involved in her care. With grateful appreciation to staffs of Pender Memorial Hospital and Liberty Hospice, Mrs. Horrell's family extends a big thank-you.
