Susie Hamilton Carter, 97, of Wendell and formerly of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Wellington Rehab and Health Care in Knightdale.

She was born February 10, 1916 in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Eva Middleton Hamilton. Susie was also preceded in death by her husband, George Clayton Carter; and sister, Carolyn Reid.

Susie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George Kent and Treasure Carter of Wendell; grandsons, Jeff Carter (Kim) of Spartanburg,SC, Michael Carter and Christopher Carter (Christy) all of Wendell; great grandchildren, Brad, Cameron, Kaeli, Austin, Julia and Alyssa; great great grandson, Braxton; sisters, Margaret H. Bell of Wilmington and Mary Lou Rodney of Asheville and many nieces and nephews.

Susie was bookkeeper for Holland Chevrolet in Burgaw for 22 years and worked at Pender Memorial Hospital for 8 years. For many years she was an active member of Burgaw Baptist Church and most recently enjoyed the fellowship with her church family at Wendell Baptist Church. Susie was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a 50 year member of Pender County Extension Homemakers.

Susie's everyday life exemplified caring and compassion by always putting others before her self. Her Christian faith shined brightly through out her life as she always loved and shared with all of her heart. Susie's most cherished accomplishment in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Susie leaves a legacy for us today of love, hope, and faith.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Wendell Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeremy Evans officiating. Burial will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. in Burgaw Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating. The family will receive friends in Wendell at the church at 10:00 a.m. until hour of the service and following the graveside service at Burgaw Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
